The Most Popular Louis V Handbags

The most popular Louis V handbag is the Louis V Speedy 30, but we've dedicated an entire page to that legendary purse. Here we'll look at the next biggest things to ever hit the Paris streets: The Keepall, The Papillon, and the Manhattan PM.

The Keepall

The Keepall is the original Louis V handbag. It precedes the Speedy by 8 years as the first "hand" bag to be designed by the luggage craftsman, George Vuitton (Louis's son). It was designed as a carry on bag for train travel, and styled to match the LV Monogram trunks that the sophisticated travelers of the time almost universally traveled with.

The Papillon

Named for it's butterfly shape (Papillon being the French word for butterfly), the Papillon is a modern, adventurous design by Louis V Handbags. A barrel bag that can be held in hand or worn on two shoulder straps, sort of like a back pack, the slender cylindrical Papillon is unmistakable. Designed in 1966, it has never gone out of fashion, even for a season.

The Manhattan GM

Known as the purse of the stars, the Manhattan GM has a particular gravity for celebrities, particularly in New York, the city for which the bag was named and styled after. Coveted the world over, and constantly more and more, the Manhattan only becomes more elusive with every celebrity seen toting it around the Manhattan streets.
